Peggy Larkin’s War is a children’s book for 8-12 year olds. The story is about a young girl (Peggy Larkin) who is evacuated from London in 1939 in advance of the expected Blitz. Peggy is sent to live in the countryside but gets off the train at the wrong station and when she finally arrives at the evacuees reception centre she finds that all the other children have gone to their new homes. Mrs Henderson, the ultra strict committee member, takes her in for what she assumes will be one night. Peggy meets Alfie, another evacuee, and together they try to solve the mystery of the forbidden room. Peggy spots a suspicious looking man in the woods, could it be a German spy? Peggy and Alfie investigate.
